Closely tied to Binance: supply is highly concentrated in CZ and Binance, and the BSC network was deliberately halted in 2022. The SEC lawsuit was dropped in 2025.
- !Supply or control is concentrated in one organisation: According to Forbes estimates (06/2024), CZ holds about 64% of circulating supply, and Binance and CZ together about 71%; Binance also runs the BNB burn mechanism.
- iStaking: BNB Smart Chain has a small validator set; exchange BNB Earn products usually depend on Binance rather than protocol staking.
Interest is paid in BNB: if the BNB price falls, the USD value of both your deposit and your interest falls. In about 2 months out of 3, BNB moves within ±10%, it fell 58% from its peak at one point in the last 12 months, down 20% from a year ago. These swings are usually far larger than a year of interest. The coin’s risk tier does not include price risk.
